Hi there Reel Time friends and customers,
There is an awesome amount of KG whiting in Western Port! We are averaging between 50-100 fish per charter and just three trips below the average this week with 25 and 40 and 40. But on the days we got less, they were massive at 44-49cm. We still have availability for this coming long weekend, just call Reel Time on 0438 302 093 to book an individual or group booking.

The gummies this week were excellent, the only drama was that there were so many boats doing the same thing and this makes it very hard to sucessfully run a business on this particular species alone. I would recommend that if you are booking a gummy charter, consider whiting as a fall back because you will be lot happier in the long run. Unless you are a patient fisherman and not afraid to wait out the full six hours for a potential trophy fish, because most of the gummies have been coming on the end of the tide. I hate to see a group of disappointed people when they only get one big gummy or none, but could have caught heaps of whiting. We are also getting numbers of BIG garfish when fishing for whiting. I mean monster gars!
The annual run of elephant sharks have made an appearance in Western Port and usually stick around until May, so give us a call on 0438 302 093 if you are interested in doing one of these charters.
Individual charters have become very popular and we have more and more regulars who are coming out on a weekly basis. What a great bunch of people and it is a pleausre taking you all out. We all have fun, everyone gets to fish and even the skipper gets in on the act and has a laugh and a fish to keep everyone up to scratch. In appreciation to these customers, Mel and I have developed a "frequent fishers" card to give individuals a free individual charter for every five that they book. The cards are in the process of being printed, so in the meantime we will just keep record of each booking.

I would like to add that I recently gave up smoking after 17 years! All I think about is food now, but I'm loving it. So all you non-smokers out there who have had to put up with my smoking, well no more! I hope this makes you happy, I know I feel heaps better.

G'day Reel Time friends and customers,
What a great start to the year it has been with King George whiting catchments in Western Port out of control on majority of charters! And not just quantity, but quality too with whiting from 42cm-48cm.
The biggest catch of the week was this 48cm King George whiting caught by Reel Time regular, Michael
Reel Time skipper, Matt Boulton after an awesome session on the whiting. Looks like these customers will have to make some room in the freezer!

The next report will surely have some pics of some BIG gummies as we have plenty of gummy trips booked in the next month, having two boats means there is still availabilty for individuals and groups. If you want to target a BIG one, call Mel on 0438 302 093 to book a date recommended by Matt Cini.
Port Phillip bay snapper slowed right down in the last couple of weeks, but in the last 24 hours we have been hearing some great reports of bag limit catches so it looks like the snapper have returned for February and March as expected.

Here is our first report for the year and 2010 has already given us some memories to treasure!
Having a second boat this season has given us the flexibility of doing our usual Western Port charters targeting Gummies or King George whiting, as well as being able to offer Port Phillip bay snapper charters.

The big gummies have arrived, but not in huge numbers... yet. I think February and March will be fantastic, so make sure you secure a date if you haven't already. King George whiting are being caught in good numbers out deep and up to 48cm. Schools of salmon are popping up, providing great action on soft plastics, and customers are also enjoying bi-catches of trevally, yakkas, mullet, garfish and pinky snapper. Port Phillip bay update
The bay is still producing good numbers of fish, with 40-50cm being the norm for now. They might not be monster fish, but I can assure you there were no complaints from my family when Matt cooked up snapper on the bbq tonight and we all had our own whole fish... anyone would have to agree that they are the best eating size! Larger snapper have been taken, just harder to locate at this time of year. Come February and March, we will once again see bigger fish in Port Phillip bay. We haven't even attempted to do a report in the last three weeks, so beware this report is huge!!
December failed to disappoint and the snapper fishing in Port Phillip bay has continued to be fantastic with the majority of charters bagging out in record time.
The highlight of the month would have to be the 8.75kg snapper caught by a Reel Time customer during a bag out session last week. Well done boys!!
Hamish & Brady celebrated Brady's (right) 11th birthday in style!
Marlon Cini caught his first legal gummy shark in PPB on boxing day, there will be many more gummy moments for Marlon if Dad has his way...
Matt Cini has dusted off all his Western Post gear and is pumped to farewell the snapper for a while and concentrate on fishing for gummy sharks, King George whiting and all the variety that Western Port has to offer! Matt Boulton will continue to skipper Port Phillip bay snapper charters and is taking bookings for Western Port as well.
There are plenty of individual charter dates available over the school holidays targeting snapper, whiting or gummy sharks. So get the kids off the couch and onto the water for a great family experience! As you can see from photos of the last three weeks (15 fishable days), snapper season has certainly not come to an end and with reports of good size gummy sharks and heaps of King George whiting coming in thick from Western Port, 2010 is set to be a ripper in both bays!
We have noted that some customers feel that their charter is finishing before the "due time", but we must stress that this is an allocated amount of time on the boat. Once the boat has "bagged out", it is time to pull up anchor, head home and enjoy your catch! Sometimes this can take 6 hours, sometimes two hours, sometimes you don't bag at all. Catch and release methods have proven to not be very reliable for snapper and Reel Time is respectful of the fact that we have such a great fishery because of bag limits. This is only really of concern for Port Phillip bay snapper as bag limits are three fish over 40cm and another seven fish under 40cm per person, and in peak snapper season there is an extremely slim chance of catching snapper under 40cm.
The boys will be fishing Western Port all this week so expect some good pics in the next report...
